Required materials and equipment
Gas chromatograph system: A hydrogen flame ionization detector (FID) and corresponding gas injection valve or manual injection system 1 are required.
Glass sphere chromatography column: This is the core component. Recommend using a chromatography column with a length of 0.8m and an inner diameter of 4mm, filled with 80 mesh glass spheres (HH-BLQ model of Haohan Chromatography). This type of column is inert and has good separation ability for low-carbon hydrocarbons (such as methane) in the carbon dioxide matrix.
High purity carrier gas and detector gas: High purity nitrogen or helium gas is usually used as the carrier gas. Hydrogen and air (or compressed air) are used as combustion gases and auxiliary gases for FID. It is necessary to ensure the purity of the gas, and the oxygen content in the carrier gas should preferably not exceed 1 ppm to avoid damaging the chromatographic column stationary phase or affecting the baseline at high temperatures.
